The IRS is requiring more schedules, more disclosures, and more narrative information. Many donors use the information on your 990 to determine whether your organization is worth supporting. Learn how the 990 has changed and what you'll need to do in response to the new requirements, as well as ways to improve your organization's governance so that you are following the best practices enumerated on the new 990.
Team Cuisine: Cupid in the Kitchen features a hands-on, in-kitchen opportunity to cook in a fun, small group setting. Instructed by Culinary Department Chair, Kevin Quinn of the Texas Culinary Academy, he will prepare a few recipes that are perfect for this romantic holiday. Chef Quinn will be joined by TCA Wine Instructor Jane Nickles, who will discuss a few featured wines that are guaranteed to get you in the mood for romance.

Umlauf Sculpture Garden's Sculpture Tales features story telling for children ages 3-5. Children listen to our storyteller Karen Hodges tell folk tales in the garden and then participate in a creative project. An adult must attend with all students. Reservations recommended. Suenos Realizados Storytime (Dreams Come True) features a bilingual storytime with books written by Carmen Lomas Garza, the inspiration behind the exhibit. You’ll be immersed in a setting of 3D scenes of Carmen’s artwork, while listening to the real-life stories of the young Carmen who followed her dreams to become an artist with the support of her family. Children will also be led in a group activity about their own dreams for the future and how their dreams can come true, just like Carmen’s.
Building Sound Self-Esteem features a four-week workshop that teaches you how to cope with difficult situations, dispel unnecessary feelings of guilt, and improve your relationships through boosting your self-confidence and building sound self-esteem. Phone Helpline on 2-1-1 Day to bring attention to the helpline as a valuable community resource. 2-1-1 is a free, confidential, multilingual resource available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The helpline is available by phone or as a resource database online, providing information and referrals to health and human service agencies, faith-based organizations, disaster relief resources, and volunteer opportunities.
Grant Evaluation and Reporting features three dynamic workshops that can strengthen your skills as an emerging grant writer or development manager of your nonprofit organization. Learn the importance of grant evaluation, its components, and accurate and timely reporting. Presenters Sue Breland, Breland Facilitation and Michele Walker-Moak, Applied Materials, will introduce you to the world of creating and using appropriate measurement systems and reporting methods in the third part of our grant writing series.
Blanton Museum of Art's Perspectives: Eclipses for Austin features Volker Bromm, assistant professor in the department of astronomy at UT, on cosmic evolution in conjunction with WorkSpace: Pablo Vargas Lugo's. Come explore solar eclipses as important collective rituals. Total eclipses of the sun provoke astonishment, anxiety, hope, joy, and fear and compel those who witness them to question their place in the world.
Heart Health for Wine Lovers Tasting on how red wine benefits your heart. Cardiologist Earl Dixon, MD, will lead guests through a presentation on the links between good heart health and wine drinking. Theater- PEER GYNT features a stunning theatrical travelogue exploring one man’s journey of self-discovery from impetuous boyhood to penitent old age. See a fantastical voyage filled with puppetry, music and wonder in the tradition of the great Norwegian fairy tales. Peer Gynt races, stumbles, fights, meanders and crashes, alternately, around the world and back again in this new translation by Minnesota poet laureate Robert Bly.

Theater- BURIED CHILD features Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize winning quintessential drama that digs deep into family dysfunction and the deterioration of the American dream. Buried Child is considered a contemporary American classic; the approach to monumental, timeless themes of human suffering – murder, deceit, violence, and rebirth – resemble the destruction wreaked by the heroes of Greek tragedy. At times disturbing, the play rips the veneer off the “American Dream,” exposing its shadow side to harsh unflattering light.
Theater- The Dixie Swim Club.
Plot- Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each others' lives. "The Dixie Swim Club" focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years.
Theater- The Flaming Idiots features circus hilarity with a bound-for-Broadway reunion act that is far more outrageous than you ever thought theatre could be. The Flaming Idiots have been retired for five years, but while we are still physically able to do the show, we want to do a reunion tour. January 28-March 7.
Musical Theater- John & Jen features a forty year journey from the mid-50s to mid-90s, exploring the relationships between brothers and sisters, and parents and children during four decades of change. With a cast of only two people, john & jen is a tour-de-force for two actors who take Jen and John from childhood, through adolescence and beyond. February 4th - 21st on Thursdays through Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 5pm
Theater- arrhythmia features the world premiere of the newest hip-hop theater performance piece written and directed by award-winning playwright, Zell Miller III. arrhythmia examines love, in all of its ugliness and splendor. This urban odyssey utilizes elements of hip-hop, contemporary movement,and lyrical slam-style poetry in this challenging, musical, political, breathtaking experience for all audiences.

The House of Torment’s Dark Stalkers features a pitch-black walk-through attraction that takes daring souls through a terrifying journey to find their way out of 20,000 square feet of total darkness with a single glow stick for each group. Daunting monsters equipped with night vision technology lurk in every dark corner to take guests through a mind-blowing psychological and emotional spiral as these characters of the shadows chase their unwelcomed visitors in endless circles and even steal their glow stick.

Samba Da Esquina: Brazilian dancing music features a wonderful collaboration between three Austin Brazilian musicians: Sergio Santos, Gabriel Santiago and Tonico Vanalli with music ranging from Choro to Samba, Samba Jazz, Gafieira, and even some popular “Forro”.

4th Annual Paramount 5K Fundraiser will begin and end at the starting and finishing lines of the Austin Marathon/Half Marathon - near the entrance of the historic Paramount Theatre. Austin recording artist, Weldon Henson, will be starting things off with the singing of our National Anthem.

Classical Piano concert by Evgeni Bozhanov, finalist in the 2009 Van Cliburn Competition, who will entertain. The 25-year-old Bozhanov started playing piano when he was six years old. At age 12, he made his debut with his hometown orchestra in Rousse, Bulgaria. The pianist is known for sophisticated interpretations, clear tones and the ability to express the nuances of the music he plays. The Van Cliburn Competition is one the world's preeminent musical events.

Austin Symphony presents Pianist Barbara Nissman performing the "Rach 3!". Described as "a pianist of a bygone era," Barbara Nissman continues the grand bravura tradition of romantic pianism, making it relevant to our century. Her recordings of 20th-century composers are considered "definitive," and her ongoing series of recordings for the Pierian label of 19th-century composers Liszt, Chopin, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and Rachmaninoff have garnered critical praise. Ms. Nissman will be performing the technically demanding audience favorite, the "Rach 3," Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor.

Theater- The Flaming Idiots features circus hilarity with a bound-for-Broadway reunion act that is far more outrageous than you ever thought theatre could be. The Flaming Idiots have been retired for five years, but while we are still physically able to do the show, we want to do a reunion tour. January 28-March 7.

Theater- The Flaming Idiots features circus hilarity with a bound-for-Broadway reunion act that is far more outrageous than you ever thought theatre could be. The Flaming Idiots have been retired for five years, but while we are still physically able to do the show, we want to do a reunion tour. January 28-March 7.

Central Austin Stroke Support Group features a free monthly support group where participants meet to share their life experiences, problems, and solutions after suffering a stroke. The group is in an open discussion format. Stroke survivors, their family, friends and caregivers are invited to attend.

Mwangaza Children's Choir Concert is appearing in concert on the campus of Huston-Tillotson University. The choir embarked on a six-month tour, “Hope for the Nations,” that features an array of singing, dancing and testimonies. The Mwangaza Children’s Choir, ranging in ages from eight to 12, is a group of spirited, talented and passionate children who represent the needy and poverty stricken people of Uganda.

Weight Loss Surgery Seminar features a free monthly weight loss surgery seminar for the public. The seminar is designed for those who are preparing for weight loss surgery or need more information and options to change their lifestyles. A Central Texas Bariatrics physician will lead presentations pertaining to weight loss surgery options.
Speaker- Central Texas during the Ice Age by faculty member at Concordia University Texas since 1973, Dr. Meissner who currently is director of Concordia’s biology program and professor of biology. He also directs current paleontology work at the Concordia’s Friesenhahn Cave, a fossil site that has produced more remains of Pleistocene vertebrates than any other place in North America except California’s LaBrea Tar Pits.

Umlauf Sculpture Garden's Sculpture Tales features story telling for children ages 3-5. Rise Across Texas Challenge's Cycling Fundraiser for bicyclists of all kinds to join VIPs including Governor Rick Perry and six-time Tour de France rider and U.S. National Champion Kevin Livingston. The Celebrity Ride will set off from the site of the Rise School in southwest Austin and wind about 16 miles through scenic Hill Country roads to the Salt Lick restaurant in Driftwood. The Celebrity Ride is a non-competitive, paced ride that will be accompanied by police escorts.

Atrial Fibrillation Seminar by the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute on the most effective ways to treat and correct Atrial Fibrillation (A Fib), a heart rhythm disorder. Heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) are problems that affect the electrical system, or "wiring," of the heart muscle. Symptoms of A Fib include shortness of breath and lightheadedness. A Fib is not life threatening if treated properly; however, if left untreated, A Fib can lead to congestive heart failure or stroke.

Lecture: Hiroshima After Iraq: A Study in Art and War features noted art historian and critic, Rosalyn Deutsche, who has written extensively on topics including public art, art and activism, and feminist theories of representation. This talk presents her current work on contemporary art and war. She teaches at Barnard College and is the author of the well-known book Evictions: Art and Spatial Politics.

Art Perspectives: WorkSpace: Anna Craycroft features Sam Gosling, associate professor in the department of psychology, in conversation with artist Anna Craycroft. Conceived by this Brooklyn-based artist, the installation will transform the Blanton’s WorkSpace gallery and adjoining e-lounge into educational spaces complete with colorful sliding chalkboards, modular furniture, pedagogical computer displays, a library of educational books, and other elements designed by the artist to create a “classroom” setting.

As the simple desire for a home of their own becomes the touchstone of heartbreak, sacrifice, trust and love, their story becomes a heroic struggle to hold a world together.
